There are great events going on in the Letcher County area!
Eolia Garbage Clean Up, April 9th 2011, Starting at 9:00am
The community of Eolia has scheduled a clean up for April 9th. The clean up crew will proceed from the school on Highway 806 toward US 119. From there work northward across Pine Mountain to the Little Cowan curve. Shuttle service will be provided. The Clean up will need as many volunteers as possible (children must be under adult supervision at all times). There will be a lunch break at Noon at the Eolia Park. Our staff has planned on picnic type foods. For more information contact Harry Collins at Harry.collins@letcher.kyschools.us.
Appalachian Regional Reforestation Initiative Event at Fish Pond Lake, April 9th, Starting at 9:00am
On the 9th the goal is to start planting at 9 A.M.. For those of you who do not want to drive several hours very early on Saturday morning, there are several motels in the Pikeville area, and the First Presbyterian Church in Pikeville has graciously given us permission to stay in their facility Friday night. The facility is very nice, but we will sleep on the floor so bring a pad or an air mattress to put under your sleeping bag.
There will be a light supper available on Friday night for those who come before dinner and breakfast on Saturday morning. Lunch will be provided at the site.
We should finish planting trees by mid afternoon so everyone should be able to drive home that evening. The church can just house us one night.
Please send an email if you are interested in attending this event. The first part of April I will send directions to the First Presbyterian Church, directions to the site, and other information you will need. (Nancy and I will be out of town next week, but we will answer your emails the following week (3/28).
If you have questions or want to volunteer for the event, please contact Mary Miller, 859-858-9983, jomar9983@windstream.net or Nancy Bonhaus, 859-263-3246, nbonhaus@hotmail.com.
