On Saturday the 16th, a group of Letcher County Central High School students joined Headwaters in a stream cleanup along the North Fork. By the end of the morning about 80 large bags of litter were removed from the banks of the river.
Those who have participated in the stream cleanup for several years agree that there seems to be a decline in litter. With this positive change, there is also a need for more intensive garbage removal of large objects in the river. Hopefully, large scale garbage removal will be organized for the near future. Be sure to keep a lookout for another stream cleanup later in the summer!
