Debi Sexton (debi@kyheadwaters.org)
Greetings! I am Debi Sexton, a life-long resident of the Letcher County area which has been and continues to be my family’s home and where I spent the majority of my professional career teaching middle school. It was during that tenure when I began working with the University of Kentucky GoH2O project which provided filtered water-filling stations/fountains to area schools and raised an increasing awareness and concern for clean, safe drinking water. Upon retirement from teaching, I continued to work with that project serving as the Harlan County Field Director.
Transitioning to the role as the Research Coordinator for a UK-community NIEHS funded research project, it is my desire to work together with officials, organizations, and concerned citizens to educate myself and others to share the responsibility on what we can do to continue the efforts to promote safe drinking and surface waters.
Walter Robles (walter@kyheadwaters.org)
Hello all! My name is Walter Robles, and I am an AmeriCorps VISTA member who will be working with Headwaters for the next year.
I am originally am from Iowa, and went to school in Wisconsin at UW-Platteville to get a degree in Environmental Engineering. Afterwards, I got into the AmeriCorps program and spent just over a year in Alaska addressing environmental issues and providing another perspective on said issues. I decided to return to the program which has brought me here!
During my service in Whitesburg, I will be addressing water quality issues, coordinating community involvement, and collaborating with UK-CARES (Center for Appalachian Research in Environmental Sciences) and Lilley Cornett Woods on additional projects. I am excited to be a part of Headwaters and for what’s to come!
