Community Correspondance Corps Pieces

Local media arts center, Appalshop‘s newest project is the Community Correspondents Corps.

The CCC is an effort to get everyday folks involved in media making that is aired on community radio and posted on the internet. The Head of Three Rivers is going to work with the CCC to help get water issues wider public exposure and help spread understanding about local problems and effort to restore our streams.

In the past few weeks, three pieces have been produced related to water

  1. audio piece that gives an overview of The Head of Three Rivers Project (4:17) by Mia Frederick
  2. audio piece about Kentuckians For The Commonwealth (KFTC)‘s “Stream Saver Bill” HB385 that aimed to protect headwaters streams by curbing the worst abuses often associated with mountain top removal style mining. This bill didn’t make it out of committee, but this piece explains why KFTC fought for it. Stream Saver piece (5:23) by Lora Smith
  3. audio piece about blow out on Little Dry Fork that has resulted in large flow of Acid Mine Drainage entering the Kentucky River. Increased flow of Acid Mine Drainage into Dry Fork and the Kentucky River (2:29) audio by Mia Frederick
