West End of Letcher County Under Boil Water Advisory

If you live in Blackey, Isom, Jeremiah, Colson, Deane, Highway 7, & Low Gap, you are currently under a boil water advisory.

Headwaters spoke with the Letcher County Water & Sewer District this afternoon and learned that, during road construction in Knott County, county & state construction crews pulled out a water line while putting in guard rails. This resulted in a water leak in Knott County’s tanks, which supply water to a large majority of the residents in the west portion of Letcher County. While they are being refilled, the Letcher County Water & Sewer District is recommending residents to exercise precaution before using their water. This advisory is therefore a mechanical, and not a chemical, issue. The Water & Sewer District expects the county to be under advisory until tomorrow (Sunday, October 20, 2012).

Headwaters is dedicated to delivering timely and accurate information on the state of Letcher County’s water. To learn more about getting involved with Headwaters’, email Tarence Ray at tarence@kyheadwaters.org.
