This Martin Luther King Jr Holiday went wonderfully for the city of Whitesburg, as well as the city of Hazard. Headwaters Inc participated in a celebration of the holidays, held at the Appalshop Theater, which were set up and hosted by Nell Fields of Faith Moves Mountains. The celebration drew upwards of 20-30 people and featured many prominent black community leaders, as well as prominent religious figures in the black community. The event featured singing, speeches by not only community leaders and politicians, but also from members of the community. The celebration was followed by a march downtown to the Whitesburg Courthouse, where local politicians spoke on the occasion. More on this event can be found at the Mountain Eagle Website at, http://www.themountaineagle.com/news/2011-01-19/News/Dr_King_did_a_beautiful_job.html.
Headwaters also helped the Pathfinders of Perry county, located in Hazard Ky, with their cleaning of the city’s Peace Garden in Downtown Hazard. The Clean Up attracted upwards of 10 Pathfinders Volunteers that came to make the Peace Garden look so much more beautiful than it did before (which was a feat considering the garden was already quite beautiful).
We believe that this has been one o the most enjoyable MLK Days to date! We cannot wait till next years events!!!
